UFC 146 Dos Santos vs. Mir on PPV Extended Preview

Junior Dos Santos on Frank Mir

I think when Mir’s in a good spot in the fight — when he’s in a good moment and in a good position — he’s very dangerous. But Mir doesn’t really know how to get through rough spots in a bout. What happened against Nogueira in his last fight was really an anomaly, because Mir got caught standing up. … Usually when Mir gets into a little bit of trouble during a fight, he can’t come back from it.

Mir's gameplan to defeat JDS

“Obviously, we’re fighting a guy who’s made his career now of not going to the ground. The only time I’ve ever seen him take a shot is if he’s pretty handily winning the fight. He just does it to, maybe a change of pace to throw something out there. But as far as, you see when people engage him, he’s a ‘throw punches and run’ kind of guy. He doesn’t wanna sit there and get grabbed and taken down. He’s not gonna fight that battle. If he was capable of doing it, we probably would’ve seen it already. The fact is that he avoids it like it’s poison. I think for two reasons: One, I don’t he’s probably that very good on the ground, and two, he is so good on his feet.”

Alistair Overeem is officially out of UFC 146: Frank Mir replaces Alistair Overeem against Junior dos Santos on May 26 in Las Vegas

After weeks of speculations Overeem is out of UFC 146. Thats a huge surprise as Dana White had already announced Velasquez-Mir was going to happen. He now has a need statement.

Dana White : "Taking off to Atlanta!!!! May 26 is now Mir vs JDS for the HW title in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand."

Official announcement is yet to come.

MIR excited about potential title shot against JDS

"I would be excited if given the opportunity to compete for the UFC’s heavyweight title at UFC 146 if the reports released earlier today regarding Alistair Overeem failing his ‘A’ sample drug test are true,” said Mir. “I have been fortunate to be able to fight in the UFC for more than a decade, and it is a dream of mine to become the first three-time heavyweight champion in the UFC. Being able to fight Junior Dos Santos would put me one step closer to that dream."

Dana White on AliStair Overeem's drug test failure

“I am beyond pissed about this. I’m so mad right now I can’t even begin … How stupid do you have to be? Seriously dumb. Anybody who’s using performance-enhancing drugs right now is an absolute moron. It’s beyond – what’s the word I’m looking for – it’s beyond belief. It’s beyond comprehension. You’re an absolute moron, a brain-dead absolute dummy. It goes beyond a guy have any common sense whatsoever.”
