The UFC has announced that Mir had been given a one fight sabattical in Strikeforce to challenge Strikeforce Grand Prix tournament winner Daniel Cormier.^[68]

The bout with Cormier was expected to take place on November 3, 2012 at Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Mir.^[69] However, on September 19 it was revealed that Mir suffered an injury in training and was forced to pull out of the bout.^[70]

Alistair Overeem is officially out of UFC 146: Frank Mir replaces Alistair Overeem against Junior dos Santos on May 26 in Las Vegas

After weeks of speculations Overeem is out of UFC 146. Thats a huge surprise as Dana White had already announced Velasquez-Mir was going to happen. He now has a need statement.

Dana White : "Taking off to Atlanta!!!! May 26 is now Mir vs JDS for the HW title in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand."

“Frank Mir, for me, is one of the best in the business, I’d probably have to give the edge to Frank for this fight. Cain’s an absolute beast, he’s coming off a loss and I think we’ll see a new Cain coming off a loss. But what a great fight. Tough one to pick. Mir offers a lot of problems for Cain and he’s not the type of guy you want to take down. His stand-up’s looking better every fight, so if I had to pick, I’d go Mir. Both of those guys are on my radar, I’ll focus on Ben Rothwell and then start thinking about those guys later.”
