Matt Hughes on retirement, responds Dan Hardy
“I’m at a crossroads between fighting another fight or retirement. I’m 38, and I keep getting older and the fighters keep staying the same age. I wanted the Fall and Spring off, and now it’s time to talk with Dana White. I don’t get to decide my own fights. Dana White and the UFC does. I don’t know who it would be. I’d love to fight someone who already beat me. Thiago Alves, it happened, I took that fight on short notice. He did too, so maybe that would be a fight I look for. Dan Hardy has a fight coming up and he’s worried about me? He hasn’t looked that good in his last few fights. He should worry about that.”

Dan Hardy: “Roy Nelson is a great training partner and great guy, but he’s not really the right man for me to be working with. He doesn’t move like a welterweight and he’s a lot stronger, so picking his brains was great, but hands-on he wasn’t quite right for me. I’ve got a new boxing coach, a new wrestling coach, a new jiu-jitsu coach… I’ve sorted out everything. Being properly set up in Vegas, you don’t have to travel far for world class training partners, and I’ve worked with Frank Mir, Georges St-Pierre, Vitor Belfort. I spent some time with Georges helping him to prepare for Carlos Condit [before his injury], giving him a look similar to what Condit would have given him. I had a great spell with him and his coaches, Firas Zahabi and John Danaher, I went to his wrestling class and it was interesting to see the things I should change in my own training camp.”

“I’ve mentioned Matt Hughes to Lorenzo Fertitta. He’s been on a rough streak as well recently, he’ll look at me and see I’ve lost four fights and think he can outwrestle me. I also genuinely don’t like him. I need a fight to get up for and I’d take great pleasure in smashing him in the face. I won’t talk about why I don’t like him, it’s some knowledge I have about him away from the sport. Even students around where he lives bet against him.”
Dan Hardy is currently at a 4 loss streak.
