Jon Jones: 'I Don't Want to Fight Lyoto Machida'

"I don't want to fight Lyoto Machida," Jones said. "He was my lowest pay-per-view draw of last year.

"No one wants to see me fight Lyoto Machida. I don't want to fight Lyoto again. Lyoto is high risk and low reward.

"He's a tough fighter, but no one wants to buy that fight.

"Between (Mauricio) Shogun (Rua), (Quinton) Rampage (Jackson) and Rashad (Evans), Lyoto was my lowest draw. Why would I want to fight someone where it's a lose-lose situation? I won't make money on it. And he's a tricky fighter."

Jones defeated Machida via standing guillotine choke at UFC 140 in December. His next title defense will be on Sept. 1 against Henderson, and he pointed out in the same article that he isn't looking past "Hendo."

Lyoto Machida thinks about Jon Jones rematch within time, wants Dan Henderson next!

I believe there are athletes who can defeat him. I guess being well trained is possible, I believe in my work and, within time, I guess I’ll have another opportunity. My next step is not Jon Jones, I’m not thinking about it. I’m much more worried about my next fight.

I’m waiting UFC’s suggestion. I guess in April or May, but in case it doesn’t happen I’ll suggest Dan Henderson, who’s a good guy. I know he’s on the line for the belt, but if this fight against Jon Jones doesn’t happen, I’d like to fight him. He’s a legend in the sport, a champion in many events, like Rings, Pride, Strikeforce… I’d like to test my technique against his."

Machida: Jones did his job, you can't ask him to make love to me.

"It was totally respectful to me.  "It was a shocking end to the story. Sometimes, those who hear may wonder if there was any disrespect, but he did his job, choked me and won. You can't ask him to make love to me, right? My first round showed that there are loopholes in the game of Jon Jones. I knew that you could find the way to these gaps. I was just waiting for the right time," said Machida. "It's good for the future opponent because no one is invincible."

Machida wants another shot against Jones

Machida: "My main goal is to be the champion of the weight class and bring the belt back to Para. Now it is a challenge to beat Jones and bounce back. We already know the path to get to him. And in the next fight, the things should happen with more ease. I think we always have to be learning something out of this. And it is through the loss that we learn more than with the victory. I am a professional and it is part of my career, to win or to lose."

"We set a game plan that, from where I’m standing, until a certain moment, was working, but he landed that elbow and I got dizzy, I couldn’t see things straight anymore and it disturbed me because I couldn’t see. And on that moment I thought, 'I gotta do my best here and now.' I felt him lose a little on the first round, but I was focused on not making it a big deal, because each round was a different one and I had to win them all. I did my game and he was falling for it. He took me down, launching an elbow on me, and that surprised me a little, because I thought he would take me down but I would have a little time to think it straight. It was very fast and I had my head close to the fence, he hit me with an elbow, I couldn’t see and I tried to stand up and he hit me even more. I stood up and the judge interrupted, but we started fighting again and I didn’t have enough time to recover from that."

The bout started  with Jones' creepy and weird acting like he did last fight with Rampage. Machida wasn't allowed to kick since he kept one of his hands  on the ground. Then Jones started low not effective kicks. Machida found his range and started countershots.  That was the first time we've ever seen Jones like that. It felt like Machida caught him with some nice shots. Probably Machida won the first round. In the second round, Machida kept the same strategy and hit with some counter punches. Jones had a nice takedown and cut Machida with a blasting elbow to the forehead. The cut was ugly and referee had to stop the fight and get the doctor examine  the cut. The fight countinued from where it was, and that was the same clinch position. Jones started landing knees to his opponent.  Jones caught Machida with a huge left causing him drop. Machida got back to his feet and caught by Jones' guillotine choke standing. Machida refused to tap and when the ref stopped the bout by seeing his left hand give up, he was dropped with unconsciousness. 

In the post fight interview Jones talked on the punches he was caught "He didn't have me hurt, but he did hit me pretty good. He's just smart. He kicked really hard. He knows his range. He has good tactics. He was a challenge." To be honest this defense was the toughest fight Jon Jones ever had.

Randy Couture thinks Jon Jones will have problems facing Machida!

5 time UFC LightHeavyWeight&HeavyWeight  former Champion Legend thinks different than everybody else on the light heavy weight title bout.

"Machida's style was everything I expected it to be. I studied the tapes but he's just hard to get a handle on. I certainly don't thing Jon's going to have an easy time of it catching up with him. He's elusive, he's a great athlete, he's a tremendous counter-fighter and he has a lot of interesting tools. It was an interesting camp for me to prepare for him because he just does a lot of things differently to others guys that I've prepared for. Jon will find the same issues. I don't think it'll be a walkover, I don't think Jon will blow Machida's doors off, but Jon does have everything firing for him right now; he's long, he rangy, he's a tremendous wrestler, he's a tremendous athlete and he can strike with anybody. If Jon can get his hands on Machida he can take him down and it will be interesting to see how Lyoto deals with being under a guy like Jon."

Rumor : Machida is too ill heading to title bout!

Jordan Breen of sherdog rumored that Machida is really sick heading to title bout against Jon Bones. Ed Soares responded that it was a total lie and Machida is 100% healthy coming to this fight.

Jones: I don't think Rashad has a chin at all.

"It's an interesting fight. I'll go with Rashad because of the experience factor. But Phil Davis can win more than he realizes, he has to be comfortable striking. I won't say too much because I have my own ideas on how to beat Rashad, but I don't think Rashad has a chin at all. Trust me Rashad does not have a chin. It will be a closer fight than people realize. I only mean well, a lot of things I say I can come off as arrogant, but I only mean well. Lyoto Machida : "I talked to Anderson on the phone like three or four times, and we talked a lot. He sent me a video, telling me to train that. He shot a video there saying what he thought I should focus more my training on for this fight, he showed me different moves, saying I can use it. So, he always tries to help me the way he can. We can tell Anderson is very helpful, mainly with his friends. You can see his worry to come and talk to me. I know he wants me to bring another title to our Brazil."

Machida's boxing coach thinks he has Muhammed Ali moves.

Lyoto Machida's boxing coach Luis Carlos Dorea :  "I'm very glad he's in such good shape... Machida family is doing a great job. He's doing amazing, he's fast and strong. Doing what he did on the light heavyweight division it's not usual... Lyoto has the weapons to defeat Jon Jones. I have great Boxing experience and it's hard to see a heavy weight fighter who moves and does what he does... There are few: Anderson (Silva), (Junior) Dos Santos, Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali). Greg Jackson expecting Machida at his best for title shot

Jon Jones' head trainer Greg Jackson talked about Machida. 

"He's also a very creative fighter. He's very quick on the in and out. He's going to try to get past Jon's length, I'm sure, with his jumping in and jumping out style and moving side to side. I fully expect us to fight the best Machida that has ever fought, and hopefully we'll be able to get around that and those problems."
