"I think he was more surprised. There's that almost denial that he feels because there is a high confidence level that he is about to get out. As his brain is trying to figure out an answer on what to do to get out of this, he is in a panic, I am still applying the move. I'm not sitting there waiting for him to figure out what to do. And so, you know, his brain never really accepted defeat. He was looking for a way as to what to do until the end. As far as what I would do, I say, that, if it's a limb thing, I definitely would, once I know I feel something starting to pop, I think I would slap out to, tap out and say screw it. Big Nog explains how he ended up with a broken arm

"Last Saturday I fought and lost via submission for the first time in my career, it was a bad feeling, but it's part of the sport. Everything that happens in a fight is quick and the fighter acts most based on his instincts and reflexes than on his mind. I knew I made a mistake as I tried to submit on a fight where I could have won by KO. But when Frank Mir was practically knocked out I heard the judge as me to stop punching him at the neck and that exactly when I tried to choke him. Mir put himself together and must be congratulated for submitting me. I checked the videos and I wasn't hitting him on the neck, but on Mir's side of the head, which is allowed. But I'm not here to apologize. I lost, I'll recover from my arm injury and then move on, probably on the second UFC Rio of 2012."

Althought It was previously reported as Big Nog would not need a surgery for fixing of his arm, he underwent under surgery recently. The fracture was fixed with a plate and 16 screws. The surgeon Dr. Tom Hackett performed the operation and Big Nog's comeback could be sooner than expected.

“If all goes well, Nogueira will start full training in the coming months and should be 100% to fight in six months or less. We anticipate a full and complete recovery.”

Referee Herb Dean wanted Nog to tap

Long time successfull referee of the UFC has spoken finally about Mir vs. Big Nog bout @ UFC 140.

"In my mind, I was hoping that he would tap. Like, ‘Please, please make this easy for me. That looks like it’s on.’ I definitely had a heightened awareness at that time. I was really focused on that arm. But that’s how Antonio became who he is -- he didn’t get there by giving up. That guy’s done things that everyone thought was impossible time and time again because he never gives up. I stopped it because I saw the arm break. The tap came after. I don’t stop it when I believe it’s locked on or even if I believe the guy’s in jeopardy because I don’t know what that person can take. I don’t know what their limits are, but if I see an injury that is too dangerous for the fight to continue, that’s when I’m going to stop the fight. Or if I see the fighter tap. He was very calm. He’s an exceptional person. Even during that, with coordinating with the physicians and him getting out of there, at some point he started taking an active role. ‘OK, Herb, I want you to help me up.’ He was pretty calm through it."

"I just locked it up and I wanted to make sure he didn't get out. I'm locking up a submission, and in my mind I want to keep applying force and don't lose it. By the time he tapped the injury had already occurred. I understand the mentality; you're trying to wait for the last second but once I pulled the arm back he could have tapped. But this is Nogueira, a great ground fighter, he's been in that move in practice and gotten out, so he hesitated I'm sure. I'm not going to let go of a hold until the referee tells me to break the hold. I would never do anything dirty or purposely hurt you. I just want to win the fight, the fact that you have to get medical treatment afterwards that sucks. He's another martial artist I hope he can go back to the gym Monday like everyone else.I feel bad that he has to go get it repaired, but I don't feel bad it happened. It would be like a quarterback apologizing for scoring a touchdown. If me and Nogueira ever rolled again, I could easily be the one on the receiving end of the kimura."

Big Nog : "I have been training boxing intensely. My hands are fast. Dorea really liked our training session yesterday. He said that I'm able to maintain strong punches throughout the combos. When we train grappling and the arms get tired I'm still able to keep the power and speed. So the probabilities are high for a knockout in this fight. But Tito Ortiz has a hard head. Let's see if I can get a K.O. The intention is to keep the fight standing up, and knock him out."

Frank Mir vs. Rodrigo Nogueira expected rematch for UFC 140

The submission artists mostly likely will be fighting each other on Dec 10th @ UFC140.  Both guys are submission artists with tremendous amount of  horse power! The last fight took place in UFC 92 main event. Mir walked out with a TKO victory in the second round defeating his opponent.

The former Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir has won his last two fights. First was against Cro Cop, he threw a beautiful knee to the head walking out with a KO in the third round, the last match-up was Roy Nelson "Big Country" which went to a 30-27 decision victory. Mir was dominant in all rounds.
