"Last Saturday I fought and lost via submission for the first time in my career, it was a bad feeling, but it's part of the sport. Everything that happens in a fight is quick and the fighter acts most based on his instincts and reflexes than on his mind. I knew I made a mistake as I tried to submit on a fight where I could have won by KO. But when Frank Mir was practically knocked out I heard the judge as me to stop punching him at the neck and that exactly when I tried to choke him. Mir put himself together and must be congratulated for submitting me. I checked the videos and I wasn't hitting him on the neck, but on Mir's side of the head, which is allowed. But I'm not here to apologize. I lost, I'll recover from my arm injury and then move on, probably on the second UFC Rio of 2012."

Big Nog Surgery

Althought It was previously reported as Big Nog would not need a surgery for fixing of his arm, he underwent under surgery recently. The fracture was fixed with a plate and 16 screws. The surgeon Dr. Tom Hackett performed the operation and Big Nog's comeback could be sooner than expected.
“If all goes well, Nogueira will start full training in the coming months and should be 100% to fight in six months or less. We anticipate a full and complete recovery.”
Referee Herb Dean wanted Nog to tap
Long time successfull referee of the UFC has spoken finally about Mir vs. Big Nog bout @ UFC 140.
"In my mind, I was hoping that he would tap. Like, ‘Please, please make this easy for me. That looks like it’s on.’ I definitely had a heightened awareness at that time. I was really focused on that arm. But that’s how Antonio became who he is -- he didn’t get there by giving up. That guy’s done things that everyone thought was impossible time and time again because he never gives up. I stopped it because I saw the arm break. The tap came after. I don’t stop it when I believe it’s locked on or even if I believe the guy’s in jeopardy because I don’t know what that person can take. I don’t know what their limits are, but if I see an injury that is too dangerous for the fight to continue, that’s when I’m going to stop the fight. Or if I see the fighter tap. He was very calm. He’s an exceptional person. Even during that, with coordinating with the physicians and him getting out of there, at some point he started taking an active role. ‘OK, Herb, I want you to help me up.’ He was pretty calm through it."
Big Nog avoids surgery!
Doctors' report on Nogueira is fortunate for him. According to the report the former UFC Interim Heavy Weight Champion and the Pride Champion will not require surgery for his broken arm and he could be back to gym not more than 9 months.

"I just locked it up and I wanted to make sure he didn't get out. I'm locking up a submission, and in my mind I want to keep applying force and don't lose it. By the time he tapped the injury had already occurred. I understand the mentality; you're trying to wait for the last second but once I pulled the arm back he could have tapped. But this is Nogueira, a great ground fighter, he's been in that move in practice and gotten out, so he hesitated I'm sure. I'm not going to let go of a hold until the referee tells me to break the hold. I would never do anything dirty or purposely hurt you. I just want to win the fight, the fact that you have to get medical treatment afterwards that sucks. He's another martial artist I hope he can go back to the gym Monday like everyone else.I feel bad that he has to go get it repaired, but I don't feel bad it happened. It would be like a quarterback apologizing for scoring a touchdown. If me and Nogueira ever rolled again, I could easily be the one on the receiving end of the kimura."
Big Nog loses rematch with a brutally broken arm!
In the very first round Frank Mir had a lock on Kimura shoulder lock. Nog tried to escape with rolling, but Mir took on top and blocked his espace moves. Nog insisted on not tapping which resulted a badly broken bone which will keep him on the shelf for a long time. Nog's camp wanted to surgery in the LA and asked Dana White to fly him there and have the surgery. Big Nog is a very long time black belt in jiu jitsu. He was stubborn enough not to tap. But this mistake will keep him out for a very long time. Frank Mir also broke Tim Slyvia's arm several years ago. This man is dangerous!
Tito Ortiz vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira set @ UFC 140
Tito Ortiz and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira both agreed to fight @ UFC 140 which will take place at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada. They were expected to fight in the Fight Night in March which was cancelled due to Ortiz' injury. Little Nog was defeated by Phil Davis as the replacement which went to decision. Now he is on a 2 fight loss streak. He was also defeated by Bader at UFC 119 with a unanimous decision.
Ortiz was about to cut from UFC unless he wins his fight against Bader @UFC 132. He defeated him with a submission and revitalized his career. Later on he fought Rahsad Evans on a very short notice @UFC 133 due to Phil Davis' injury, but lost this one. So both fights need a victory and thats going to be an awesome one !
