Jose Aldo: I'm going to have to move to lightweight!
“Having Edgar, a former lightweight champion, would be amazing for the featherweight division, but if he doesn’t come down to 145 pounds, in the future, I’m going to have to move to lightweight.”
Frankie Edgar not moving down to 145, sees Aldo a big problem
“I got nothin’ against 145 (pounds). Will I make it there one day? Probably. You know? That’s the truth. But, I just don’t wanna go out on these terms. I felt like the fight was too close for me to just be like, ‘Alright, I’m going down to 45,’ you know? You know, the reality is that when I first got into this, there was not 45, there was only 55. Actually, when I first started fighting, UFC didn’t even have 55. So, when 55 came, that’s where I fought. Then, I started doing well, and my record kinda speaks for itself. It is the plan, to eventually go down one day, just not now… Forty-five is a ways away. But, he’s (Aldo is) tough. Just because you go down a weight class doesn’t mean it gets any easier, especially when you’re fighting a guy like Jose Aldo. He’s got the power on these guys, but he’s got the speed also. He presents a lot of problems.”

“I consider myself to be like a Joe Aldo in that aspect. I admire that kid and he’s a great champion. He is actually one of my favorites to watch. I got to watch him defend some shots against Chad Mendes and it immediately rung a bell in my head. I need to fight my fight the same way Jose Aldo did his because I know Jim’s coming in to take me down. Everyone who fights me wants to take me down; no one wants to stand with me.”
Aldo would move to lightweight for only a title shot
If it depends on me, it won’t happen,” Pederneiras said. “Unless he leaves the team to train somewhere else and someone agrees with that, because I will not,” the coach joked in an interview with Sherdog.com. “It won’t happen for now, unless he goes straight for a title shot. Not, ‘Oh no, he left the featherweight belt, moved up to lightweight and started from the beginning,’ no way.” “The staff of the academy trains every day for this, and Aldo has been training since he came to MMA,. This training wasn’t done in three months, but over five years. So, he put into practice what he has done in these three months, the physical, and that was it.” In a repeat of his celebration at WEC 38 in San Diego, Aldo sped out of the cage as soon as the fight was stopped and dashed into the crowd at Rio’s HSBC Arena, where he was engulfed by a sea of his ecstatic countrymen. “I expected him to do something stupid, especially here,” Pederneiras laughed, producing from his pocket the Flamengo soccer jersey which Aldo was supposed to wear after the win. “He did [the same thing] in San Diego and he had to hear a lot from the commission staff. But here, with all that crowd, I knew.”
Jose Aldo: Mendes is just a younger Urijah Faber that I'll defeat
“This will be my first time headlining at UFC. I’m very happy to be a part of this event. I’m anxious to hear the crowd screaming as I walk inside. I just can’t wait to feel that energy. About his speed, it won’t be a problem. He’s always been an explosive fighter, but I’m an explosive fighter as well. I’ve been training jiu-jitsu since I was a kid, so if we both hit the ground, I will be the one with the advantage.Chad’s style of fighting is very similar to (his coach and former Aldo challenger) Urijah Faber’s. The height, the wrestling, the way they move…they are very similar. Mendes is younger than Faber, but it’s basically the same type of fight for me. Mendes has got a disadvantage fighting me on his feet. He’s not as good a boxer as the other guys I have faced and I don’t think he can do well standing up in this fight. I will be looking for a knockout or a submission. I will defeat Chad Mendes.”
Gray Maynard thinks Aldo is one of the most complete fighters he ever worked with, and Chad Mendes is not ready
“I’ve talked to him backstage at the UFC’s and [the UFC 136] press conference in Houston. [He] really seemed like a humble, nice guy. So, I wanted to reach out to him to help… I knew he was good, but I had no idea he was as good as he is in every area. Really unbelievable, especially his takedown defense. That goes for all of Aldo's home gym also. He’s really one of the most, if not the most complete fighter I’ve ever worked with. I think Mendes is a tough kid, but I think it’s too early for him to fight Jose Aldo.”
Chad Mendes: I don’t shoot; I blast people of their feet with my takedowns.
“I believe in my skills and knew that if I trained hard and fought right, things would work out for me and they did. These guys that have black belts in jiu-jitsu, I’ve pretty much just shut them down basically because of my athleticism and my strength. I think it’s going to be tough for him to throw any kind of submission when I’m on top punching him in the face. I don’t think he’s got this big advantage on the ground. Jose Aldo is a great champion, but I don’t think he’s fought anybody with the athleticism, the strength, and the wrestling background that I have. I don’t shoot; I blast people of their feet with my takedowns. I’m going to go to Brazil and I’m going to take that belt from Aldo. I’m the next featherweight champion of the world. It happens for me this Saturday and it is time to prove myself.”

Jose Aldo is expected to defend his featherweight title on Jan 14th in UFC 142 Rio
Kenny Florian not quitting UFC, moving to lightweight.
As the only man who has fought in 4 different weight classes in the UFC, Kenny Florian(14-6) announced he is not ready to quit, and will be moving to lightweight class. Aldo lost the UFC Featherweight Championship against Jose Aldo @ UFC 136. He was unsure about what to do, now considered what needs to get done and finally returning back to his "home" the lightweight division.
He stated; "I still love this sport tremendously and still want to be a part of it. I know myself, and it's not even just being competitive, but it's just being there, learning and competing. There's still very much a fire burning there so I'm going to do it."
He now will take some time off to add some weight and get ready for the lightweight class. To be honest he didn't look any better in featherweight.
Aldo retains title!
Well, the performance and quality of the fight was poor to watch. Here is a summary. Florian had a better first round and in my opinion he won that one. That was probably the only in the bout. He couldn't push the phase in the next rounds. Aldo was dominant in the other rounds but thats it. He knows how to play to score and very well conditioned to succeed. He actually didn't win any new fans with his performance. We need to see better of him. Maybe in the next defense against Chad Mendes!

So whats next for Kenny Florian? He is still unsure about that after the title loss. Florian is already a veteran aged 35 and missed another title shot opportunity.
Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian
Jose Aldo (19–1) is on a 12 fight streak not having hard time among these fights except his defence against Mark Hominick. Aldo is very powerfull, in a very good condition, his skills are limitless and he is 25. After losing the title eliminator bout against Gray Maynard, Florian dropped to featherweight. The veteran is very skillful. He had beaten such great fighters like Takanori Gomi, Clay Guida and Diego Nunes. We shall now see how much he can do against the beast in the division.
